The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on companies, individuals, and addresses related to the now-defunct Russian cryptocurrency exchange Garantex and the ruble-backed stablecoin A7A5, accusing them of assisting Russia in evading international sanctions and laundering ransom proceeds. Garantex handled over $100 million in illegal transactions and after being shut down in March of this year, its successor platform Grinex continues to operate and transfer user funds, using A7A5 to regain access.
