The U.S. financial regulatory agencies are undergoing a significant transformation. The Federal Reserve Board of Governors member Bowman recently delivered a striking speech, where she emphasized that banks and regulators must embrace the advantages of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and Crypto Assets, or they may face the risk of diminished economic influence. Bowman stated that change is imminent, and ideally, regulators should allow the application of new technologies to flourish in ways that benefit the banking system. She also called for the industry to assist regulators in gaining a deeper understanding of Blockchain and digital assets, as well as the potential of these technologies in addressing issues such as fraud. Bowman also hinted that new rules might be formulated to reduce regulatory scrutiny related to reputational risks.
At the same time, Paul Atkins, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), also sent positive signals. He stated that only a few crypto tokens should be considered securities, marking a significant shift in the SEC's regulatory stance towards digital assets following Gary Gensler's term.
In terms of the macro economy, economists at S&P Global Ratings are optimistic. They predict that inflation will remain relatively controllable and there may be room for further easing of monetary policy in the future. This prediction brings a positive outlook to the financial markets.
These developments indicate that U.S. financial regulators are gradually adjusting their stance toward emerging technologies and Crypto Assets, creating a more favorable environment for industry growth. However, the formulation and implementation of specific policies will still take time, and market participants should closely monitor subsequent trends.
